Linear infrastructure includes road, rail, pipelines and utility easements which criss-cross our large continent connecting urban centres and spanning the vast interior.

Construction activity is forecast for further growth in 2019 fuelled by a strong pipeline of infrastructure projects associated with significant growth in public sector spending on transport infrastructure as well as significant infrastructure construction on water projects.

Senversa has worked with private and public sector clients on pipeline, rail and other projects offering tailored solutions to geotechnical engineering design and construction, environmental site assessment and auditing, risk assessment and remediation.

Strategic Advice

Since 2016, Senversa has provided environmental advice to the Western Program Alliance for their Level Crossing Removal Projects across Melbourne. This includes advising on site investigation works, preparation of Soil Construction Management plans and liaison with the regulators to obtain approval to excavate, stockpile and reuse PFAS impacted materials .

Geotechnical Engineering Services

The South West Loddon Pipeline is located west of Bendigo and expected to be completed mid-2019. The pipeline will deliver vital water to communities and provide security of water supply as well as economic benefits to the region. Senversa has provided geotechnical engineering services for multiple pump stations and storage sites including recommendations and advice on earthquake designs, foundation systems and wet wells, plus directional drilling information for rail crossings.

Contaminated Soil Assessment

The Torrens Rail Junction upgrade will deliver substantial efficiencies to freight transport by rail between Melbourne and Adelaide reducing current delays and allowing significantly longer trains to use this route. Senversa was engaged to characterise contaminated fill and soil generated by this 500 million dollar rail project. Senversa also completed a post-construction site assessment to support the hand-back of the rail corridor from the contractor to government.

Contamination Assessment

Melbourne Airport’s Third Runway is the airport’s biggest expansion project since its original construction in the 1960s. As part of the planning process, Senversa has worked in partnership with the Melbourne Airport Environment and Sustainability Team and its delivery partners to complete detailed contaminated land assessment works, inform project feasibility and contribute to the Major Development Plan (MDP) submission. In particular, this has included provision of strategic advice on the management of legacy contamination including per-and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

GIS Services

In collaboration with the Melbourne Airport Environment and Sustainability Team, Senversa designed a web-based GIS portal to house existing data and reports and allow rapid analysis and drill-down on existing data and site information. Prior to the implementation of the GIS portal,  Melbourne Airport data was located within many reports of varying quality, making it difficult to compare, interpret, evaluate and present data. The final GIS portal has allowed Melbourne Airport to readily access and export its own data to allow it to respond to requests for information quickly and accurately.  It has also provided a greater level of certainty on the current understanding of contaminated land across the estate and the identification of key sources, pathways and potential receptors.
