Site auditor services for a unique energy infrastructure

Overview

Senversa provided Site Auditor services to Australian Industrial Energy (AIE) for a unique energy infrastructure project located in Port Kembla. The project involved the development of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) regassification terminal at the Inner Harbour of Port Kembla which included the construction of a new marine berth and wharf facilities. Resulting excavated and dredged material associated with the works was transferred for placement in a dedicated emplacement cell in Port Kembla’s Outer Harbour.

Senversa NSW EPA Accredited Contaminated Sites Auditor Melissa Porter was engaged to undertake a site audit and provide input on key documents as part of the consultation process set out in the State Significant Infrastructure approval. Senversa provided a strong team with significant experience in large complex audits, with an ability to work collaboratively with AIE’s project delivery team.

Key considerations for the project included the assessment, remediation and management of soil/sediment contamination associated with historical land uses and the presence of acid sulfate soils.

Scope

  • Review of design and management plans, including remediation works plan, emplacement cell design report, spoil management plan, water quality management plan and acid sulfate soil quality management plan.
  • Review of a validation reports and long-term environmental management plans
  • Provision of Interim Audit Advice letters, Section A Site Audit Statements and Site Audit Reports.

Challenge

Key challenges overcome by Senversa included timely review of extensive consultant documentation over the duration of the project relating to the assessment, remediation and management of materials, whilst maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. Senversa provided a strong and stable audit team over the course of the project, mitigating the potential for loss of knowledge with changing staff, and facilitating the development of good working relationships with the client and their service providers, resulting in successful project outcomes.

Outcome

Senversa provided Section A Site Audit Statement and Site Audit Reports stating that the sites were suitable for the proposed land use.

Senversa provided high quality expertise on a complex project with a focus on key environmental end-goals coupled with a pragmatic approach. This was achieved through an experienced and motivated team who worked closely together with AIE and their consultants.
