Design and deployment of a generative AI assistant

Overview

Senversa was commissioned to design and deploy a generative AI assistant for the United Nations Global Compact Network Australia (UNGCNA), with strategic support from Xero. The assistant was developed to transform how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) engage with UNGCNA’s knowledge and resources – enabling rapid, contextual access to sustainability guidance and implementation tools. The project successfully delivered a fully embedded generative AI assistant tailored to UNGCNA’s strategic goals.

The assistant was built using a structured system prompt that defined its role, tone, and ethical boundaries. It prioritised Australian context, inclusive language, and professional guidance, aligning with UNGCNA’s strategic vision for AI-enabled sustainability support.

Discovery and requirements gathering

A targeted workshop and follow-up session clarified user needs, accessibility goals, brand alignment, and privacy expectations. This phase established the functional boundaries and ethical guardrails for the assistant.

Data organisation & AI configuration

UNGCNA provided curated content and Senversa structured the diverse dataset for ingestion into Chatbase - including reports, training guides, websites, and transcripts. The assistant was configured to operate exclusively within UNGCNA’s knowledge base, ensuring relevance, integrity, and alignment with ethical boundaries.

AI deployment & analytics set-up

The assistant was embedded into UNGCNA’s digital platforms using Chatbase’s iframe and chat bubble integrations. Analytics were configured to monitor engagement while preserving user anonymity. The user acceptance testing (UAT) phase involved multiple organisations trialling both scripted and exploratory queries.

Integration support

Senversa provided remote support for building, testing, and embedding the assistant into platforms, ensuring seamless deployment and operational readiness.

Project management & collaboration

The project followed a milestone-driven delivery model, with coordinated calls and a final revision cycle. A recorded handover walkthrough enabled UNGCNA to manage and evolve the assistant independently.

Challenge

  • Prompt Engineering and System Boundaries: Crafting a system prompt that clearly defined the assistant’s role, tone, and limitations was critical to ensuring ethical behaviour.
  • Data Structuring and Ingestion: Ensuring all content was provided in clean, structured formats required close coordination.  The compilation of knowledge metadata greatly improved the systems ability to navigate resources.
  • Testing Coordination: Managing UAT logistics across multiple testers and scenarios required detailed planning and collaboration between Senversa and UNGCNA.

Outcome

The project successfully delivered a fully embedded generative AI assistant tailored to UNGCNA’s strategic goals.
  • Immediate Access to Resources: SMEs gained streamlined access to UNGCNA’s sustainability materials via a conversational interface, reducing barriers to engagement and accelerating adoption.
  • Ethical and Inclusive Design: The assistant was engineered to avoid off-topic responses, uphold privacy, and redirect superficial compliance queries to substantive guidance. It adhered to Australian English standards and inclusive communication principles.
  • Scalable and Sustainable Deployment: Chatbase was selected for its intuitive content management, flexible integration options, and transparent subscription tiers. The assistant’s architecture supports ongoing updates and expansion.
  • User-Centred Testing and Refinement: UAT involved diverse testers evaluating both structured and spontaneous queries. Feedback was captured using standardised templates and used to refine the assistant’s behaviour and boundaries.
  • Strategic Enablement: The assistant supports UNGCNA’s broader digital transformation agenda, including future initiatives in AI governance, staff upskilling, and public engagement.
